Curtis J. Phillips withdraws from the Grand Am

Yesterday team Curtis J. Phillips withdrew the team that it had planned on entering into the 2012 North Central Grand Am Basketball Tournament in Grand Forks, ND. Due to three of the seven players on the tentative roster dropping out due to scheduling conflicts and the overall lack of quality players being available general manager and player Daniel Sondreal informed the remaining three players of the news on Thursday. "I tried and tried to come up with quality replacement players but many were already on teams and a lot the players that I used to play with or against no longer live in the Grand Forks area thus it was quite hard to field a decent team. Hopefully next year as long as the world doesn't end this year that we will be able to enter a team. And I would like to thank Levi, Brandon, and Jarrett for fulfilling their intent on playing for team Curtis J. Phillips." said Sondreal when reached early Friday morning via telephone.

Curtis J. Phillips (4-3) drops to Hutchinson Flyers (7-0) 45-50

Quotes

"Sad to see the Lawrence family go, its been a good run, got a couple of championships along the way. We played tough against a really athletic team and just came up short in the end. Bof teams played hard, my man. Bof teams played hard." - CJP forward Jim Hammen

"We played a pretty good game, defensively we made them shoot some tough shots and turn the ball over, unfortunately we had a tough time getting shots to fall. Too bad I had to end my CJP career with a loss, but I thought we played really well against a good, athletic team. Thanks a lot, its been a really awesome run." - CJP guard Brett Goedeke

"Great game. We had it in our hands and I missed the wide open layup." - CJP guard James Lawrence

"Good intensity throughout the game. We just couldn't hit shots the first half and never quite got over the hump. Good luck to the departing members." - CJP guard Matt Donnelly

"One of our better played games this season. It's hard to beat a team with that much length and athleticism. The departing members, best of luck and thank you." - CJP guard Ariel Ludwig

A Family Exodus

Brett Goedeke
James Lawrence
Josh Lawrence
Yesterday team Curtis J. Phillips was hit with some dismal news as three of its original players informed team general manager and player Daniel Sondreal that they will be leaving the team after Tuesday's season finale. Cousins James Lawrence, Josh Lawrence, and Brett Goedeke will be moving on to another night of city league basketball where they will be forming a "family" team. Since Curtis J. Phillips Basketball debuted on October 13, 2009, the three cousins have played nearly seventy games in ten seasons and helped win two league championships for CJP. "When the first member (Charles Morris) of our original eight left last summer that was a bit strange and now with Bert, Joey, and Jamal leaving that will likely be even stranger as we have been playing basketball together on Tuesday nights for almost three years. I always had a feeling that if one left that the others would follow and I understand and respect why they are making the move. Thus unless they end up playing on the same night as us sometime, I hope they do well." said Sondreal.

"I think my first half free throw really got us going. It had the crowd really into it. The gym was buzzing to put it mildly. It sparked our second half run for sure. Jim seemed especially inspired by the throw, as he was really hitting during the second half. I feel bad for James since he missed my shot." - CJP center Josh Lawrence

Quotes

"Anytime you're playing against the likes of Webber, Jordan, Iverson, and Penny Hardaway you have to play your best which tonight we were far from. For we turned the ball over and over and over, missed a lot of open looks, and had what it seemed like a few of our team members throw in the towel far too early. It was a big loss in terms of championship aspirations but we still have a bit of hope. Here is to keeping that hope alive." - CJP forward Daniel Sondreal
